Gola Rainforest
Gola Rainforest National Park is known to be Sierra Leone’s green diamond. Located approximately 40 Km east of Kenema, it was officially opened in 2010. It is Sierra Leone’s largest tract of rainforest and home to the most interesting and spectacular diversity of wildlife. This includes over 330 bird species, over 650 species of butterflies and 49 species of mammals including a population of over 200 chimpanzees. It is also home to the Pygmy Hippopotamus and home to three species of pangolin.
Day 1
In the morning we will start our journey to Gola Rainforest National Park via Kenema to Lalehun. Rest at Lalehun Lodge, while enjoying the tranquility of the surrounding forest.
In the evening, you will be welcomed to Lalehun with the traditional Devil Dance of the Gola people.

Day 2
Option 1: Birdwatching
Arise at dawn and enter the forest to observe the many endemic bird species in Gola. Return to the lodge for the remainder of the morning, and depart after lunch to arrive at the large White-necked Picathartes (Picathartes gymnocephalus) colony (10 nests) in time to observe the birds returning to nest.

Option 2: Nature Walk
Gola Rainforest 3 to 4 hours nature walk takes you into the foothills of Gola Central to the African Buffalo field where you can enjoy stunning views of the rainforest, and on to the ancient gravesite of the original Gola people and hear the many medicinal uses of the trees and plants. Return to the lodge for lunch and rest through the afternoon.

Day 3
Rest at the lodge or rise early and enter the forest to observe the many endemic bird species. Take breakfast and depart Lalehun journeying back to Freetown with an optional break taken at “Sweet” Bo.
