Mount Bintumani “King of the Mountains”
Midway between Kabala and Koidu in the east among the ranges of the Loma Mountains is Mount Bintumani, the highest peak in Sierra Leone at 1,945m. The mountain is named after the female spirit that lives on the mountain. Climbing Bintumani offers one of the best and most challenging experience. Attempting to hike Mt. Bintumani requires you to be mentally and physically prepared.
Items mandatory to take along:
– Hiking sticks
– Good trekking shoes
– Scarf for women for the meeting with the village chiefs
– Long trousers and long sleeves blouses
– Water at least 2.5 liter per day and per person
– Tent and sleeping bag (light-weight)
– Insect Repellent Spray
– First Aid Kit
– Torch
– Binoculars
– Water purifiers
– Food items preferably canned food, energy bars, and high-sugar snacks
Day 1
Drive from Freetown to Sinekoro village with an overnight in Sinekoro in tents (Camp 1) – Approximately 8 hours’ drive
Day 2
Start trekking full day from Sinekoro village to Camp 2 with an overnight in tents – Approximately 6 hours’ hike
Day 3
Trek from Camp 2 to the peak of Bintumani and return to Sinekoro with an overnight in the village in tents – Approximately 6 hours’ hike
Day 4
Return to Freetown – Approximately 8 hours’ drive
