Pickett Hill
On the mountains around the Peninsular, the Picket Hill hike is about seven hours in total. It starts from Koba Water village, where you can do some stretches before starting the experience that will create a lifetime of memories.
The hike to the peak would take about three hours, with the chance of spotting monkeys, birds, and colorful butterflies. Walking through the forest and hearing the natural sounds of earth will surely revive the soul. An hour into the walk, this hike will start becoming more difficult – crossing small streams and using both hands and feet to step on slippery rocks. It is advisable to have enough water and energy snacks, such as protein bars, bananas, milkshakes, etc. Two hours into this hike, a short break will be proposed for lunch while enjoying the peace and tranquility that this place has to offer. After the break, the hike will commence with the energy and determination to reach the top of the hill.
Reaching the top, the feeling of exhaustion soon fades away and is replaced by the sense of accomplishment at the sight of the amazing view of the city of Freetown, and the sensational feel of fresh air and slight wind.
While hiking downhill, you will come across trails from the colonial era and a house where prisoners used to be held.
With all these memorable moments, this experience will conclude with the satisfaction that you have hiked the highest mountain in the Western Area of Sierra Leone.
